As part of my commitment to #GoBonobos in 2017, I thought I’d revisit The Bonobo Way 12 Steps from Dr. Block’s book, The Bonobo Way. The first step, “see the bonobos.” Enjoy this playlist of bonobos being bonobos:
“The Bonobo Way is a refreshing must-read for our times.”

The high holiday of love is a capitalist’s fairy tale, concocted by Hallmark’s 19th century forebearers to increase greeting card
It stars Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr who was arrested and condemned to death for unlawfully marrying young couples in pagan Rome. While imprisoned, Valentine healed his jailer’s blind daughter, who fell in love with the chaste priest. Before being executed on February 14th, he left the girl a farewell note (which she could now see, thanks to his saintly ophthalmology skills), signed, “Your Valentine.”
Yoga helps you become more acquainted with your body and what makes you tick— and the more intimacy you have with yourself, the better intimacy you can have with someone else, says NYC-based yoga teacher Kristin McGee, who works with celebs like Tina Fey, Bethenny Frankel, and LeAnn Rimes Cibrian. “The more aware you are of sensations and feelings, the more you feel and experience everything going on during intercourse,” she says. Striking a pose can also boost sexual confidence. “Yoga makes you more intimate with all the parts of your body and you cherish your body more, so you don’t have a lot of the insecurities that can hold women back in the bedroom,” McGee explains.

“This is from a series that I’m making of functional art pipes that I’ve hand carved in exotic woods from photos that people have sent me. The vulva comes out and the bowl is where the vagina opens. I’ve mounted it on a painted board with the words “C’est une pipe” painted underneath in homage to Magritte’s “Ceci n’est pas une pipe.”.
The pipe itself is made of cocobolo wood and the base is maple. It is mounted on a painted wood board and framed. The pipe and base are 6″x4.5″x1.75″. The total framed piece is 16″x14″x2.75″
By now it’s clear to most people (except for those with their heads buried in the sand) that Donald Trump lies–a lot. From campaign promises–drain the swamp?–to ego boosting, a large amount of what Trump says is flat out untrue. Every aspect of his behavior screams sociopath, and these infographs from The New York Times clearly show how regularly he blatantly lies (regular bald faced lying is one of the major signs of a sociopath).
The role of President of the United States requires immense amounts of interaction, but how can anyone be expected to collaborate with someone whose word has zero value? It’s easy to understand our allies distancing themselves from us while this egomaniac runs the country. So who is left standing at his side? Big corporations, corrupt politicians, and spineless yes-men. The sooner Trump and his people are out of office the better, and the sooner our society learns to recognize the signs of sociapathy and avoid giving power to those who will undoubtedly abuse it, the better. Let those with warmth and love in their hearts lead us, not toxic power addicts.

“A powerful story about loss of freedom and individuality, V FOR VENDETTA takes place in a totalitarian England following a devastating war that changed the face of the planet.

“Halloween is just a week away, which means it’s crunch time for figuring out a costume. And when it comes to find the funniest, scariest, and best ones, it makes sense that trick or treaters and adults alike turn to Google. People ‘google’ so much that the search giant’s name has become a verb. “Witch, Slut, Feminist: these contested identities are informing millennial women as they counter a tortuous history of misogyny with empowerment. This innovative primer highlights sexual liberation as it traces the lineage of witch feminism” through art, film, music, fashion, literature, technology, religion, pop culture, and politics. Juxtaposing scholarly research on the demonization of women and female sexuality that has continued since the witch hunts of the early modern era with pop occulture analyses and interviews with activists, artists, scholars, and practitioners of witchcraft, this book addresses and illuminates contemporary conversations about reproductive rights, sexual pleasure, queer identity, pornography, sex work, and more. Author Kristen J. Sollee elucidates the ways in which women have been persecuted for their perceived connection with witchcraft, and how they have fought back, harnessing the legacy of the witch for revolutionary means.”

“It’s hard to separate Donald Trump’s businesses from his politics. As a result, some are calling for a boycott of any company that sell Trump products.
Shannon Coulter, a brand and digital strategist, started the #GrabYourWallet hashtag in October following the publication of a leaked tape that showed Trump making lewd comments about women. Coulter used the hashtag to encourage people who were offended by Trump’s language and actions to boycott companies doing business with his family.
In the months since the election, she and other anti-Trump Twitter users have circulated a spreadsheet with retailers that do business with the Trump family. “

“In the updated second edition of Whipping Girl, Julia Serano, a transsexual woman whose supremely intelligent writing reflects her diverse background as a lesbian transgender activist and professional biologist, shares her powerful experiences and observationsboth pre- and post-transitionto reveal the ways in which fear, suspicion, and dismissiveness toward femininity shape our societal attitudes toward trans women, as well as gender and sexuality as a whole.
Serano’s well-honed arguments stem from her ability to bridge the gap between the often-disparate biological and social perspectives on gender. In this provocative manifesto, she exposes how deep-rooted the cultural belief is that femininity is frivolous, weak, and passive, and how this feminine” weakness exists only to attract and appease male desire.
In addition to debunking popular misconceptions about transsexuality, Serano makes the case that today’s feminists and transgender activists must work to embrace and empower femininityin all of its wondrous forms.”
“”What Do You Do with a Chocolate Jesus?” is the funny and skeptical, yet genuine exploration of the Christian history they don’t teach in Sunday school. It finds humor, irony, and occasional insight amid the inconsistencies, absurdities, hypocrisies, and flat out weirdness that too often passes for eternal truth. Like a history of religion as done by The Daily Show, it humorously explores the facts, the history, and the big ideas in an engaging and entertaining story. Pitting actual Scripture against pious propaganda, Thomas Quinn treks through chapter and verse of the New Testament, explores the sordid saga of medieval beliefs (including End-of-the-World panics and fights about what kind of stuff Jesus was made of), and reveals some of the shocking attitudes of America’s founders toward religion. It isn’t always pretty, but it’s usually good for a laugh. If war is too important to leave to the generals, religion is too important to leave to the preachers. Skeptics need evangelists, too.”
“This unconventional and lighthearted introduction to the ideas of the major Western philosophers examines The Simpsons — TV’s favorite animated family. The authors look beyond the jokes, the crudeness, the attacks on society — and see a clever display of irony, social criticism, and philosophical thought. The writers begin with an examination of the characters. Does Homer actually display Aristotle’s virtues of character? In what way does Bart exemplify American pragmatism? The book also examines the ethics and themes of the show, and concludes with discussions of how the series reflects the work of Aristotle, Marx, Camus, Sartre, and other thinkers.”

“A funny, fresh, and moving antidote to conventional attitudes about sex and the single woman
Emily Witt is single and in her thirties. Up until a few years ago, she still envisioned her sexual experience “eventually reaching a terminus, like a monorail gliding to a stop at Epcot Center.” Like many people, she imagined herself disembarking, finding herself face-to-face with another human being, “and there we would remain in our permanent station in life: the future.”
But, as many of us have found, things are more complicated than that. Love is rare and frequently unreciprocated. Sexual experience doesn’t necessarily lead to a future of traditional monogamy―and why should it? Have we given up too quickly on the alternatives?
In Future Sex, Witt explores Internet dating, Internet pornography, polyamory, and avant-garde sexual subcultures as sites of possibility. She observes these scenes from within, capturing them in all their strangeness, ridiculousness, and beauty. The result is an open-minded, honest account of the contemporary pursuit of connection and pleasure.”
Originally sung by the Divinyls, an australian rock band, the song “I Touch Myself” is a self-pleasure anthem that has been covered by musicians across multiple genres. P!NK, Blondie, as well as the Genitorturers have all released their own covers of this erotic song. Additionally, it has also been used to promote breast cancer awareness, and has featured in popular film and television. Enjoy.
“When Paris Sizzled vividly portrays the City of Light during the fabulous 1920s, les Années folles, when Parisians emerged from the horrors of war to find that a new world greeted them—one that reverberated with the hard metallic clang of the assembly line, the roar of automobiles, and the beat of jazz. Mary McAuliffe traces a decade that saw seismic change on almost every front, from art and architecture to music, literature, fashion, entertainment, transportation, and, most notably, behavior.
The epicenter of all this creativity, as well as of the era’s good times, was Montparnasse, where impoverished artists and writers found colleagues and cafés, and tourists discovered the Paris of their dreams. Major figures on the Paris scene—such as Gertrude Stein, Jean Cocteau, Picasso, Stravinsky, Diaghilev, and Proust—continued to hold sway, while others now came to prominence—including Ernest Hemingway, Coco Chanel, Cole Porter, and Josephine Baker, as well as André Citroën, Le Corbusier, Man Ray, Sylvia Beach, James Joyce, and the irrepressible Kiki of Montparnasse.
Paris of the 1920s unquestionably sizzled. Yet rather than being a decade of unmitigated bliss, les Années folles also saw an undercurrent of despair as well as the rise of ruthless organizations of the extreme right, aimed at annihilating whatever threatened tradition and order—a struggle that would escalate in the years ahead. Through rich illustrations and evocative narrative, Mary McAuliffe brings this vibrant era to life.”
Frida Kahlo de Rivera was a self-portrait painter of Mexican and German descent . She was married to Diego Rivera and during her lifetime traveled throughout Latin America and the USA. In the years since her death she has a well established legacy as one of the great female painters of the modern era.
“Entertainers were the first group of successful women to capture the public eye, taking to the stage in vaudeville and film and redefining their place in society. June Sochen introduces the white, African American, and Latina women who danced on Broadway, fell on bananas in silent films, and wisecracked in smoky clubs, as well as the modern icons of today’s movies and popular music…”
While the conversation about the education versus entertainment aspects of porn continue, Harriet Williamson’s interview with Erika Lust is something to consider. Erika lust astutely comments, “There’s no reason sex on film has to be presented as cheap or dirty. I think it’s worthy of artistic framing as any other grand human experiences.” This conversation highlights the intersections between feminists and pornographers….Read Now…
“I’ve been to swinger clubs. I’ve had threesomes. I’ve met people at clubs, bars, bookstores, professional networking events, concerts, and sports events, and had sex with them minutes later. I’ve had masters and Doms to serve sexually. It’s fair to say I’ve dabbled in almost everything. Until I met Mara, the one thing that was missing from my sex life was a true kindred spirit. I never had a female friend with whom I could, without hesitation, divulge all of my sexual exploits and in turn hear stories that matched mine. She and I met at a swinger party, and we’ve been friends ever since.”

Because sometimes you need a little musical inspiration.
Sex soundtracks are tricky. If the songs are too cheesy (see: Barry White), all involved parties will erupt into giggle fits, promptly ruining the mood. If they’re too fast, you risk jackrabbit sex. So here’s a list of 36 songs to do it to, with a nice mix of downtempo jams for a slow, sensual bone and upbeat bangers for, you know, banging. Now go forth and get it on tonight, like Montell Jordan said.

This day in history: Back in 1969 a riot broke out in New York, the incident shaped gay culture well after the noise subsided. Moreover, the riot was a signal that the gay community had reached its boiling point and would no longer tolerate the routine raids from the New York Police Department’s Vice Squad. Thus, on Friday June 27th, 1969, the Stonewall Inn became the battleground for gay men, drag queens and the NYPD. << MORE >>

“Why do men think aprons are so sexy on women?
A few years back I had a lingerie and accessories shop on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood, and one day a nice lady came in and asked if I would make some aprons for a photoshoot that she was doing with Paris Hilton’s new show on E! Television Network.
She wanted one or two that looked ‘retro,’ to be worn with ruffled dish washing gloves.
We made some aprons for her that were inspired by the aprons that I remembered seeing on “I love Lucy.” We did them in gingham check and polka dotted fabric with cute heart pockets and ruffles…”

How would you describe Langston Hughes? He’s been referred to as the Harlem Renaissance’s greatest poet, a creative powerhouse who was, at one point in his career, “critically, the most abused poet in America.” But for Sam See, Hughes was something more than a jazz poet—he was a drag poet, too.
See tracks the ways in which Hughes documented and responded to Harlem’s teeming drag culture in the 1920s. As a gay man, Hughes took part in Harlem’s spectacular drag balls, places where all races, genders, and social classes mixed in “the safest and most visible space in which queers could…[convene and cross].” Hughes saw Harlem culture itself as an extended show with “poems that perform in drag…”
“The list of things that can be created with 3-D printers keeps getting longer: jewelry, art, guns, food, medical devices and, now, mouse ovaries.
Scientists have used a 3-D printer to create a mouse ovary capable of producing healthy offspring. And researchers hope to create replacement human ovaries the same way someday.
“It’s really the holy grail of bioengineering for regenerative medicine,” says Teresa Woodruff, who led the new research published this week in the journal Nature Communications.”
“So how do you actually finger someone right once you’re up there? Well, you’ve got to move slowly. Before an errant digit ventures inside, she needs to be properly wet and ready for you… and that means build-up.” READ MORE

Here are a few things that make me happy:
Because I enjoy happiness, I spend a lot of time outside. I eat a small piece of chocolate every night after my kids go to bed. There’s always beer in my fridge, and I own every episode of The Golden Girls.
Also because I enjoy happiness, I pursue good sex. Because the best sex involves another person, attaining it can be more complicated than a trip to the grocery store or stepping into my backyard.
For me, the search for good sex extends beyond pleasurable genitalia, impressive stamina, and even a pretty face. Beauty and technique matter, but not as much as a person’s ability to inspire me or make me smile. Sex toys have come a long way–if a firm, sizable cock was all I required, I’d have run off with Alan long ago.
Alison Barber’s dream to become a writer was born when she won her first Young Author’s Contest. Her desire to masturbate professionally came later, and intensified after a switch from a focus on English to a major in Fashion Merchandising led to the opening of Taboo in 2002.
“In August, Hailee Steinfeld released her debut single and music video — an upbeat song called “Love Myself.” With lyrics like “know how to satisfy, keeping that tempo right without you” and “I’m gonna touch the pain away, I know how to scream my own name,” the song has earned praise from many female listeners who consider it a bonafide “masturbation anthem.”
Admittedly, the lyrics are ambiguous enough to assume that “Love Myself” is just a fun pop song about feeling empowered, but when Steinfeld appears in the music video wearing a leotard with the words “self service,” any doubts about the song’s “menage à moi” meaning are quelled.”
“Zhana Vrangalova had hit a problem. On a blustery day in early spring, sitting in a small coffee shop near the campus of New York University, where she is an adjunct professor of psychology, she was unable to load onto her laptop the Web site that we had met to discuss. This was not a technical malfunction on her end; rather, the site had been blocked. Vrangalova, who is thirty-four, with a dynamic face framed by thick-rimmed glasses, has spent the past decade researching human sexuality, and, in particular, the kinds of sexual encounters that occur outside the norms of committed relationships. The Web site she started in 2014, casualsexproject.com, began as a small endeavor fuelled by personal referrals, but has since grown to approximately five thousand visitors a day, most of whom arrive at the site through organic Internet searches or referrals through articles and social media. To date, there have been some twenty-two hundred submissions, about evenly split between genders, each detailing the kinds of habits that, when spelled out, can occasionally alert Internet security filters. The Web site was designed to open up the discussion of one-night stands and other less-than-traditional sexual behaviors. What makes us engage in casual sex? Do we enjoy it? Does it benefit us in any way—or, perhaps, might it harm us? And who, exactly, is “us,” anyway?”

Donald Trump appointed the former president of a leading anti-abortion organization to a senior position at the Department of Health and Human Services, or HHS, a move that pro-choice groups are calling “dangerous” and “extreme.” Charmaine Yoest, who actively supported Trump in his campaign, will serve as assistant secretary of public affairs at HHS. It started, somewhat innocuously, with a tree. Ekin Onat waves a hand across Gezi Park in central Istanbul, on a bright but quiet Saturday morning, pinpointing the recent history of protest that galvanised all but two of Turkey’s 81 provinces in the spring of 2013.
“A tree! Green space!” Nothing more radical than the environment, she says, walking me through the greenery hitched to the concrete slabs of Taksim Square. Peaceful demonstrations against government plans to bulldoze the park to build a shopping mall spiralled; mass revolt led to brutal police violence which left at least four people dead and more than 8,000 injured. The momentum of Occupy Gezi swept Turkey – and flipped Onat’s life for ever…”
“Tract homes and strip-malls pepper the urban sprawl of the family-friendly San Fernando Valley, also known as the hub of Southern California’s adult entertainment industry. This is where Kelly Holland, Owner/CEO of Penthouse Global Media, and her team, work tirelessly out of the company’s headquarters in the Los Angeles suburb of Chatsworth to ensure that the iconic magazine remains a viable, profitable, well-oiled machine.
Holland purchased the 51-year-old magazine, originally founded by Bob Guccione in 1965, for an undisclosed amount in a deal finalized earlier this year. Though she won’t say the exact figure, she does admit that she paid the full asking price. “The only sin in my family was paying retail,” she says, quoting Woody Allen. “I’m a sinner,” she adds, smiling….”
Having declared 2015 the first “Year of the Bonobo” in the heady, hung-over days of early January, it’s time to spring forward into the quintessential season to go bonobos. Spring! The word itself leaps for joy, strips off sweaters and dives headlong into a spring fling, releasing that “inner bonobo” that’s been hibernating all winter long. Spring is mating time, dating time, time to catch bonobo spring fever, flirt and fly with the birds and bees through the flowers and trees, all buzzing, tweeting (yes, before Twitter, birds did the tweeting), blooming and dripping with lustful, ecosexual fecundity and revolutionary possibilities.

As I continue my commitment to #GoBonobos in 2017, I’m revisiting The Bonobo Way 12 Steps from Dr. Block’s book, The Bonobo Way. The second step in this different kind of 12 step program is “Be a Bonobo.” Dr. Block has this to say, “like neotantric yoga, Tai Chi or belly dancing, many of these steps to releasing your inner bonobo begin with releasing your breath.” Step two focuses on the physical, mental and emotional elements of bonoboness; it is an inclusive process that weaves together hypnosis, Bonobo Liberation Therapy, the erotic theater of the mind, and medibation. Still not sure how to “Be a Bonobo?” Here are Three Ways to Live Like a Bonobo.
Wishing you lots of #PeaceThroughPleasure,
“Bravo to Dr. Block for paving the way for a hopefully more bonobo future.
The Bonobo Way is a playful but insightful glimpse into our own sexuality and what we can learn from our closest, perhaps superior, relatives.”
